FAQs
How is the room heated?
Our spacious studio is heated by a state-of-the-art forced-air electric fan system, with temperature and humidity carefully controlled for each class style. Fresh air is also circulated during classes as needed, depending on the season.
The heat you experience can be influenced by many factors, such as how regularly you practice, how hydrated you are, when you last ate, the number of people in the room, your breathing, and outside conditions. Above all, we aim for consistency.
I felt quite dizzy and nauseous during class. Is this normal?
It can happen from time to time, often due to hydration, diet, or even emotions. Usually, these feelings last only a few minutes. If it happens, take a break by kneeling or lying down. Avoid leaving the room or standing too quickly, just rest until the feeling passes.
How often should I come?
As often as you can! Many students start with a daily practice, then settle into 3, or 4 times per week. The more you come, the more you’ll want to come. The harder yoga feels in the beginning, the more benefit you’ll gain from it. The time and effort you invest will return to you many times over.
Can I eat before class?
It’s best to come on an empty stomach. Heavy meals should be avoided for 2, or 3 hours before class, as food can cause discomfort during certain postures. Light fruit or juice is fine up to 1 hour before class.
What about water?
Staying well hydrated every day is far better than only drinking water just before or during class. Our yoga classes help detoxify the body from the inside out, and hydration supports your elimination systems, bowel, urinary, and skin, so they can do their job effectively.
What if I have injuries or illnesses?
Please let your teacher know if you are pregnant, have had recent surgery, or are managing injuries, illnesses, or special conditions. Most postures can still be practiced with safe modifications your teacher will guide you through.
Update: Please do not come to the studio if you have a cough, sore throat, runny nose, loss of smell, fever, or shortness of breath.
My back, knee, ankle, or hip hurts and I’m scared! Can I still come?
Yes, talk to the teacher before class, or email us at info@yippieyopi.co.nz. In most cases, you can still join and benefit. Our classes are not designed for “perfect bodies”, they are for real people, meeting themselves where they are. With guidance, you’ll learn to listen to your body and find the right approach for your needs.
