      <image:caption>Stephanie discovered Bikram Yoga by chance when she went to a class with her flatmate. She was instantly hooked and quickly took up a regular practice. A year later and she was off to Bikram Teacher Training in Los Angeles in 2011. Stephanie initially started teaching on the Gold Coast in Australia before returning to Auckland and teaching in various studios there for several years. During that time she also trained in Vinyasa &amp; Yin Yoga. In 2015 Stephanie bought the Mount Yoga studio in Tauranga and taught and ran the studio for the past 6 years. She now joins us at Yippie Yopi to share her love of yoga with the Napier community. As a teacher, Stephanie believes, “if she can help you catch a glimpse of the way this yoga practice can change your life, then she has done her job”.</image:caption>

I’ve always found comfort in the 26&amp;2 hot yoga class. It doesn’t matter how bad my day has been, I always leave the class feeling better. It is a healing 90 minutes. A period of open eyed meditation where you have no option other than to focus on yoga and your breath. It gives your mind some peace, while strengthening and toning your body.       <image:caption>Olivia took her first hot yoga class in 2011. Earlier that same year she had been training in Kung Fu in China in the middle of winter in the freezing cold and had been dreaming about hot yoga. Her first class did not disappoint and like many other practitioners, she knew instantly that hot yoga was something she needed. “Yoga has helped to keep me fit and healthy over the years but even more importantly it has calmed my mind and that calmness is starting to spread to other aspects of my life. This peace of mind is what I wish for all practitioners, on and off the mat. I feel very fortunate to be a part of such a strong community. Yoga is a personal practise but it also creates such unity between different people. We are lucky to have such a diverse and caring group of people in our community.”</image:caption>

As a teenager she broke both tibia and fibular bones in her left and right legs and as a result struggled a long time with running, jumping, balancing and depression. “I was introduced to Bikram yoga by a friend in my mid 20’s and like most people my first class was pretty overwhelming. But I did go back for a second time and have never looked back. This yoga not only helped strengthen my muscles and improve my balance, but it also helped with my depression and general well-being – I’ve never felt better! I became a teacher in 2012 so I could share with others what this yoga has done for me. Yoga will always be part of my life as well as the lifelong friends I’ve made along the way and the awesome community I’m now a part of!”</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Jasmine is here for the weekend and and will be teaching an e84 Intermediate class, a 26&amp;2 workshop and a 26&amp;2 90 minute class. This will be an incredible weekend and we can’t wait!! Nearly a decade ago she taught at our studio for many months and we are so very excited to see her again and be inspired by her again! Jasmine has been teaching for 12 years in over 30 countries. She leads trainings for e84 Yoga and Jedi Fight Club, and loves to work with both teachers-to be and yogis who want to dive into their personal practice. Jasmine competed for many years and is the 2019-21 Canadian champion. She travels most of the year for yoga trainings and events. Limited spots, so book in quick! e84 Intermediate Class Saturday 10 August 2024 starts at 12.30pm $30 The e84 Intermediate Class is a 90 minute hot class that uses the foundation of Bikram yoga to introduce new postures and develop additional yoga skills. It is an accessible and fun class that focuses on teaching posture technique. No advanced skills are required. 26&amp;2 Workshop Sunday 11 August 2024 starts at 1.30pm $80 During this unheated workshop, we will take a close look at foundational techniques for the 26&amp;2 sequence. With consistent application, these techniques have the ability to transform our practice! Participants will have the chance to try techniques, see demos, and ask questions. Appropriate and useful for all levels. 26&amp;2 90 minute class Sunday 11 August 2024 starts at 4pm This class is part of our “normal schedule” so our normal membership’s and pricing options apply.       <image:caption>Yvonne started her career as an apprentice jockey, however an unfortunate riding accident meant leaving that behind for a new path. That path led to her current role as a Production Manager within the manufacturing industry… a career she describes as ‘stress city!’ To manage the stress Yvonne took up walking, eventually competing in a number of  half, full and ultra- marathons. In March 2023 she completed her 10th Oxfam 100km trail-walker. With all the walking and tramping she felt the need to start stretching and strengthening her muscles. Add to this the hormonal changes that come at a certain time in one’s life (joy joy!) Yvonne had an even greater need to relax her mind. Seven years ago she walked into her first Bikram class and was hooked, she hasn’t looked back! Two years ago she was introduced to ‘Hot Hiit Pilates’ by Meghann and Olivia. This led to Yvonne completing her ‘Hot Hiit Pilates’ teacher training in March 2023.   Despite the training pushing her right out of her comfort zone, Yvonne is loving teaching. She has a particular interest in Pilates as medicine for the mature practitioner and for its ability to help with hormonal challenges.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>I walked into my first Bikram class in 2011  thinking it was going to be really easy compared to the Muay Thai training that I loved so much… In this I was unprepared for reality, I struggled with the heat, to regulate my breath and collapsed out of the poses. I came away from this experience humbled but feeling lighter, happier and  with a desire to explore more. Since then I haven't looked back.  It has always been my place to calm and heal myself in my mind, body and spirit. I’ve gone through alot of phases in my life and also in my own practice.  What I love about the Bikram method is that no matter where you take a class and wherever the body is, the sequence of postures are the same.   I trained to teach in 2021 with OHY teacher training in Queenstown under Donna Wikio and my teaching journey began.  It is important to me that people trust in the process and optimize their experience in the room, herein, naturally the benefits and healing happen.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>I love all styles of Yoga but by far the most personal benefits I have experienced is with Bikram hot yoga. I had been an active person all my life, martial arts was my main sport, achieving my belt belt in Kung fu, I also practiced gymnastics regularly and Ashtanga Yoga with Peter Sanson weekly, I was very fit, flexible and agile but in 2017 after my second baby via emergency C-section my core was severely weakened and I then had a serious spine injury which left my right leg completely paralyzed. At age 36 I had to use a Zimmer frame to be able to hop around It took a year to be able to walk again fully but I still lived with chronic pain daily and had lost almost all movement in my spine. I started attending hot yoga classes weekly after a friend suggested it for my back. Stiffness and pain meant my ability was very low to begin with but I was told by the teacher "work to the body you have on the day" so I did.  I persevered and slowly saw improvement each class.  Today I have zero back pain and I have become very flexible again. My back is strong, my core is strong and I have almost the same level of movement in my spine than I had before my injury and I am fitter and stronger now in my 40's than I was 20 years ago in my 20's.  I still have 3 disks that are damaged and decompressed but the strength that practicing Bikram Yoga weekly has given me means that I can live "normally" again, pain free. I fell in love Bikram yoga and I wanted to help share the benefits it can give anybody regardless of age or fitness levels. So in March 2023 I decided to attend the intensive Bikram teacher training course in Queenstown to become a Bikram teacher. It was very tough but I loved every minute of it! I am proud to say that I am now a Bikram Hot Yoga teacher.  Bikram Yoga really is for everybody and every body, regardless of your ability, flexibility and state of mind. I know from my own experience that you leave that hot room feeling stronger and more centered, mind body and soul. When I was 19 years old, I attended my first yoga session in Chile, my home country. Ten years later, in 2012, while living in Mexico, I got the chance to become a yoga teacher, which completely changed my life. In the first class that I guided I said to myself "this is what I want to do for the rest of my life". Teaching yoga, I found the opportunity to help others to feel better in their own bodies, relieving chronic pain and feeling calmed and happier.  When you practise yoga, you start feeling better in your body overall. Discomforts disappear or are reduced, your energy is elevated, your mood changes, your mind gets clearer, and you transmit this peace and happiness to others.       <image:caption>Wendy is visiting us from 27 June - 16 July 2023. In December 2019, Wendy had her first Bikram class in Hong Kong. She could barely do the postures, just tried her best to stay in the hot room. Yet, the sense of relief was palpable after the class. She could not wait for the next classes. Since then, Wendy has been continuously practising with her two major Bikram-trained teachers in Hong Kong, Missy Szymanski and Noy Petchiwikai, which built her foundational understanding of the set sequence. To become a certified instructor, she joined Yoga Champion Esak Garcia’s 26&amp;2 training in Kuala Lumpur. Wendy is forever grateful to Missy, Noy and Esak - their teaching inspired her to be an empathy, humble and precise yogi. Practising and teaching Bikram Yoga profoundly changed Wendy’s life. Although 26&amp;2 sequence is same, our body feels different every day and state of mind is dynamic. What matters are the consistency to practise and the discipline &amp; precision during the practice.       <image:caption>I was dragged along to my first Bikram Class at the Wellington studio by a couch surfer whose name I can't recall.  I was in my early 20's at the time and can't fathom how my exceptionally unhealthy body convinced me that attending a second class was a good idea.  But it did, and I went back time and time again, and there began my journey back to health and mind/body connection.  I've had long periods of obsessive and zero practice in the 20 years since, but my connection to this sequence has remained strong. Six years ago I decided to leave my job as a Primary School teacher and drag my 3 year old to Bali to partake in a 6 week Bikram Teacher Training with Evolation Yoga.  I spent the first day crying on the beach wondering why I thought that was a good idea… it was years since I had last practised at a proper studio and I was overwhelmed with the study/the practice/the mothering… a real crisis... but day two was better and by the end of the six weeks I was certified and convinced that it was one of the best decisions I had ever made.  I never intended to actually teach, as I didn't have a studio near by, the training succeeded in reigniting and refining my home practice (in the greenhouse by summer and by heating my tiny house too much in the winter). My son and I relocated to Napier last year and I've adored being near a studio again.  I dusted off my old dialogue and accepted the challenge when Meghann asked if I would be interested in teaching.  So far teaching has felt very natural if a little nerve wracking. I love the repetition and focus on alignment. I love the meditative aspect of the bright lights and heat. I love the self awareness (and confrontation) that the full length mirrors bring. I love Bikram Yoga.</image:caption>

Having practiced hot yoga off and on for over a decade, I got serious and did my E84 teacher training in 2023. I love teaching classes and guiding the tremendous effort put in by our yogis.   As I get older, yoga has increasingly become an important part of my wellbeing program and allows me to enjoy my other sports even more.       <image:caption>The studio opens 20 minutes before morning classes, 30 minutes before the first afternoon/evening class and 15 minute before the second evening class. The teacher welcomes you at reception and will close the front door to the public when the class begins, there is no ability to sneak in late. We are strict about start time and will always start exactly on time and finish on time as we know people have places to be and things to do. Please ensure you arrive at least 15-20 minutes BEFORE the class is due to start. This will give you enough time to register and be shown the ropes by the teacher. There may be other new people starting in the same class, so arriving with plenty of time is important.       <image:caption>Light, non-restrictive, comfortable work-out clothing. You will be sweating so avoid loose fitting, heavy clothing (like t-shirts and long track pants). Opt for bike/exercise shorts, sports bras/tops for women and singlets for guys (many men just wear shorts). For the Yin class you may wish to be warmer and bring a pair of sox or a long sleeved top. There is less movement and the room is not heated, so your body can cool down when in final savasana. What should I bring to class? A yoga mat if you have one (you can rent one for $2 or buy one for $39.99). A large towel to put on your mat to soak up your sweat (towel rental is $2 or buy one that fits your mat for $39). A bottle of water (filtered water is available). An extra towel is suggested if you wish to shower after class.</image:caption>
